Worth quoting

Whether you agree with everything some people say or do, you still have to admire some of the things they say!

“There is no limit to what a man can do or where he can go if he doesn’t mind who gets the credit.” ~ Ronald Reagan

“If you want your dreams to come true – don’t oversleep.” ~ Brush Dance

Tact is the language of strength.” ~ Bob Burg

“Don’t be afraid to give up the good to go for the great.”  ~ John D. Rockefeller

Opt out of Yellow Pages?

Sunday, September 5th, 2010

I don’t know about you, but receiving four different yellow pages times how many addresses in your town? = a lot of trees!  Sometimes having one printed copy of the Yellow Pages is handy, but who needs ALL of them, especially with everything more easily found on the internet?

I stumbled across the link below.  It lets you choose the ones you want to keep or opt out of.  Just enter your zip and it will take you to an opt-out web page for various publishers of “Yellow pages” : ypassociation.org

Wisdom from a couple of ancient dudes

Sunday, August 15th, 2010

Whatever you do, you need courage.
Whatever course you decide upon, there is always someone to tell you that you are wrong.  There are some difficulties arising which tempt you to believe that your critics are right.  To map out a course of action and follow it requires some of the same courage which a soldier needs.  …it takes a brave soul to win.
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

It Is Not The Strongest Of The Species That Survives,
Nor The Most Intelligent,
But The One Most Responsive To Change.
~ Charles Darwin

Brave those changes!

Vetting – making intelligent choices

Tuesday, May 25th, 2010

The term “vetting” seems to be popping up everywhere lately.  It’s something all business owners should be aware of.   Wikepedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vetting) describes it as follows:

“Vetting is a process of examination and evaluation, generally referring to performing a background check on someone before offering him or her employment, conferring an award, etc. In addition, in intelligence gathering, assets are vetted to determine their usefulness.”

Vetting is something you should do with every person or company that you do business with.  It will give you more “intelligence” about them, which in turn will

  • Improve your decision-making,
  • Provide more information to base your stand during negotiations, and
  • Help set expectations.

Here’s to happy vetting!

Dream Building

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

Hi everyone

I recently had the opportunity to hear Mary Morrissey speak.  Amongst other things, she talked about the six mental faculties that can make a difference in your business, in your life:

  1. Imagination
  2. Intuition
  3. Perception
  4. Memory
  5. Will
  6. Reason

I especially like what she had to say about the middle two:

  • Perception  – YOU decide what something means!
  • Memory – Look forward to the results you want, and “remember” who you became to achieve that

Being, Intending, Doing…

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

“Few people are willing to stop being what they are to be what they want.” ~ Dr. Gene Landrum

Ain’t that the truth!  It’s so EASY to keep doing what we’ve always done, to keep being who we’ve always been.  But if you have bigger aspirations, if you want more than you have now, it’s time to become someone greater, someone willing to do the things you’ve never done, to consider ideas you’ve never tried.

A word of caution, in case you just “intend” to follow that advice…. “To always be intending isn’t being at all.” ~ Og Mandino

Instead of “intending,” choose just ONE action you could take today, something small (baby steps), something outside your comfort zone… Maybe it’s picking up that phone just one more time than you thought you could to call a prospect, upsell a client, offer your product or services.  Or maybe it’s just reaching out and asking for advice…

What is YOUR next step on the path to having the life you’ve always wanted?

More good ideas from Fred…

Saturday, April 24th, 2010

Did you read my blog at ShaunaBizBooks.com?  Here are some more ideas from the book, The Fred Factor (by Mark Sanborn).

“We compete against our own potential every day. And most of us fall short of what we are capable of doing or being.”

..and to paraphrase another point…..

For each of us, our silent opponent is mediocrity, “a willingness to do just enough and nothing more to get by.”
….. I for one vote that mediocrity is one competitor to distance ourselves from!

How often have you done less than you are really capable of?  It’s so easy to go there.  Let’s support each other to reach beyond mediocrity to reach our dreams.  Please feel free to reply to these blogs with your own thoughts, or send questions or topics you would like to see addressed to Shauna@shaunaResources.com
